Research economist intern needed

Do you want to add your own unique perspective to the world of socio-economics and technology development and help shape effective interventions in the field? Are you a recent graduate or currently in postgraduate study in economics or related subjects interested in gaining work experience in high-caliber international environment whist continuing your studies?

If so, we want to hear from you. We are looking for an economist research intern who will spend six months with us working on our projects and developing their skills. You will be based at our Alexandria office and the salary is commensurate with experience.

We are seeking a motivated individual with a desire to become involved in discussions of key trade and development issues. Our work on internationalization, innovation and technology has been featured extensively by national and international agencies and engages with policymakers, academics and business leaders around the world. We want someone who can bring fresh ideas from their area of expertise to our research projects.

We are looking for someone with experience in economic analysis, especially of trade and development issues; an interest in public policy; strong academic credentials; good communication skills; and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. You must also be available full-time (40 hours per week) between mid-January and mid-August 2023.

As part of our research team, you will have the opportunity to gain or develop practical skills in a range of areas including data analysis, empirical modelling and report writing. You will work closely with economists within the organisation who have a broad mix of expertise, backgrounds and interests .

We are looking for a Commercialisation Specialist to join a vibrant team of innovation and entrepreneurship specialists in the commercialisation of R&D activities and outputs. The successful candidate will be tasked with commercialising licensed technologies into global products and services. In this role, you will develop and maintain an industry-leading knowledge of global industrial markets, including business trends, trade regulations and clean technologies. This includes identifying potential opportunities for a group of ECITD beneficaries to expand their reach into international industrial sectors. In addition to liaising with our technology partners, you will be responsible for sourcing funding from a range of sources including government agencies, industry bodies, research institutes and venture capitalists. You will also work closely with the senior team to manage ongoing portfolio company issues including the identification of new investment opportunities, negotiating agreements with international distributors and analysing contract compliance. The role is a great opportunity for someone who values excellence in product development, commercially astute decision-making and technical excellence.

Your key responsibilities will include: Identifying commercial opportunities to grow our portfolio of companies/beneficiaries beyond the incubation phase. Developing market strategies that support the expansion of our technology into new geographic regions, supporting capital-raising activities to establish these entities. Conducting market research and analysis necessary to support business development activities for high-value target markets. Traversing the global business environment to identify and secure funding opportunities from a range of sources. Advising a group of our beneficiaries on market entry strategies, contracting negotiations and compliance matters. Identifying, negotiating and following up on commercial agreements with partners in new markets.

Your Profile: A strong track record in technology commercialisation, innovative enterprise development or product sales/licensing. A strong understanding of patent law, clean technologies and international market trends. Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in another language is an advantage. Action-oriented, with a mindset to solve problems and thrive in a dynamic environment. Ability to quickly adapt to changing market conditions and work under pressure in a highly visible position. Able to travel internationally and stay in country for extended periods when required.
